Norway, Kingdom. An Order of St. Olav in Gold, Grand Cross Set, by Tostrup, c. 1960

Instituted in 1847. Sash badge in 18 karat gold, white enamelled Maltese Cross, with gilt crowned monograms "O" between the arms of the cross, obverse centrepiece shows red with the golden Norwegian lion bearing a battle axe on a red background surrounded by a white-blue-white ring, reverse bears the King Oscar's motto “Ret og Sandhed", inclusive of crown suspension 94.8 mm (h) x 61.2 mm (w), including ribbon 84.4 g, extremely fine condition. 

Accompanied by the star of the order featuring an 18 karat gold star mounted upon an eight-pointed silver star surmounted on Maltese Cross in white enamel, with crowned monograms "O" between the arms of the cross, centrepiece shows the golden Norwegian lion bearing a battle axe on a red background surrounded by a white-blue-white ring, reverse pinback, 82.1 mm, 74.1 g, with makers cartouche on centre reverse, extremely fine condition.

Footnote: The Royal Norwegian Order of Saint Olav is a Norwegian order of chivalry instituted by King Oscar I on 21 August 1847. It is named after King Olav II, known to posterity as St. Olav.
