Italy, Kingdom of Two Sicilies. A Royal Military Order of St. George of the Reunion in Gold, Knight by Right, c. 1830

(Real Ordine Militare di San Giorgio della Riunione). Instituted January 1st, 1819. Constructed of 18kt Gold, consisting of a red enameled cross with a laurel and oak wreath as well as crossed swords in the quadrants between the arms of the cross,

the obverse center medallion presents a figure in Gold spearing a dragon on horseback on a white enamel field, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed “Vinces in Hoc Signo”, the reverse medallion presents the same central figure as obverse, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed “Virtuti”, on an integral horizontally pierced ball for suspension from a period original ribbon, hallmarked three times on the suspension ring but illegible, measuring 29.5 mm (w) x 32.4 mm (l), with delicately executed repairs to the enamels on the arms of the cross on the reverse, in very fine condition.
