Italy, Kingdom. An MVSN Officer’s Dagger

A well-preserved Militaria Volontaria per la Sicuerezza Nazionale (Voluntary Militia for National Security/MVSN) Officer’s dagger, measuring 35 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 20 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to both the tip and lower edge. Unmarked, the blade sits securely within a one-piece aluminum hilt. A hooked quillon and eagle’s head pommel facilitate a firm grip. The handle is inset with black bakelite inserts on both sides, the obverse featuring a central gilded fasces. Accompanying the dagger is its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft featuring a bronze tip. Dual bronze integral rings set into the upper third of the shaft retain loops for the accommodation of a hanger. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident throughout, and include some running marks to the blade, loss of finish to the hilt, scratching of the scabbard paint, and the loss of the scabbard’s throat catch, the latter rendering the dagger loose during storage. An untouched example, this dagger remains in a very fine condition.
