(Ordine dei Santi Maurizio e Lazzaro). Instituted September 16th, 1572. (c. 1900 issue). A fine jeweler’s quality cased Grand Cross Set of the Order of St. Maurice and St. Lazarus, consisting of:
1. A Breast Star, constructed of silver, consisting of an eight-pointed star with a multi-faceted surface, the obverse with a white enameled Shamrock Cross constructed of 18kt Gold with three raised roundels on each end of the cross, with green enameled fans in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the reverse plain, with a barrel hinge, tapered vertical pinback, and rightward-opening broad wire catch, the reverse with a central silver medallion inscribed with the maker mark of E. Gardino Succ. Cravanzola of Rome, measuring 85.8 mm (w) x 86.4 mm (l), weighing 91.00 grams.
2. A Sash Badge, consisting of a white enameled Shamrock Cross constructed of 18kt Gold with three raised roundels on each end of the cross, with green enameled fans in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the reverse equal in appearance, suspended using a large hollow Gold crown with a pierced ball suspension and swivel ring from a period-original sash ribbon, unmarked, measuring 64.1 mm (w) x 99.8 mm (l).
3. A Presentation Case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core, with a green lightly textured faux leather exterior, the exterior of the lid with the raised Royal Monogram of Victor Emanuel in gilt, the interior of the lid lined with an off-white cotton-silk material, embossed with the maker logo of “Cravanzola of Rome” in dark blue ink, with functional dual exterior metal hinges, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional exterior metal clasp closure, measuring 134 mm (w) x 307 mm (l).
A fine quality manufacture, well preserved, and complete Grand Cross Set of an Order of St. Maurice and St. Lazarus, the breast star in better than extremely fine condition, the sash badge with extremely light and shallow flaking to the green enamels on the fans, in better than very fine condition, and the presentation case equally well preserved in better than very fine condition.
