Description

(Grande Ufficiale dell'Ordine civile e militare dell'Aquila romana). Instituted 14 March 1942 by King Victor Emmanuel III. (1942-1944 official issue; issued by the Italian Social Republic until 1945). A rare and lovely Grand Cross Star, in silver, featuring eight arms of faceted rays, the obverse medallion bearing a central white enameled Cross Pattée joined through the arms by a circular green enameled laurel wreath, the central disc featuring an eagle clutching a fasces in its talons (denoting 1944-45 issue), the reverse offers a vertical pin assembly, measures 89.1 mm (w) x 90.3 mm (h), weighs 76.37 grams, obverse medallion slightly loose and spins, dark patina to the tips of the rays, enamels intact, extremely fine.
