Instituted in 1868. Cross in white enamel linked with gold rope, obverse centre shows a band with Italian beaded colours, reverse shows Savoy cross imposed on a black eagle with gold background, neck ribbon divided into three bands, inclusive of loop 53 mm (h) x 37.9 m m (w), fine condition. Miniature with rosette, 26.2 mm (h) x 18.6 mm (w), evidence of chipping on obverse lateral cross arms, very fine condition. Housed in original case, very fine condition.
Footnote: The Order of the Crown of Italy was instituted on 20 February 1868 by Victor Emmanuel II to commemorate the unification of Italy in 1861. It was the first national Order instituted after the unification of the Kingdom of Italy.
