Instituted March 26 1833 by King Charles Albert. Officially awarded medal, unmarked as it should be to the Air Force recipients, in bronze, the obverse bearing a crowned cross with wreath below and the inscription AL VALORE MILITARE around the exterior, the reverse is engraved BARTOLINI AMELIO partially enclosed by a wreath, surrounded by the engraving CIELO DI SPAGNA – 29 APR 31 AGUS 1937 (Spanish Sky – 29 APR 31 AGUS 1937) measures 33.56mm (w) x 39.41mm (h – inclusive of integral suspension bar), weighs 16.8 grams (including ribbon), minor edge knocks, dark patina, light wear, a rare award ti an Italian pilot participating in the Spanish Civil War, in very fine condition.
