Hungary, Kingdom. A National Association of War Disabled, War Widows and War Orphans Official’s Cap, by Faragó

A rare and well-preserved Hadirokkantak, Hadiözvegyek és Hadiárvák Országos Nemzeti Szövetsége (National Association of War Disabled, War Widows, and War Orphans/HONSz) official’s overseas cap, constructed of olive-drab wool with a whipcord weave. It is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls, fixed in position with stitching at cardinal points, which are trimmed with silver aluminum wire piping. Stitched onto the peak is an oval cockade consisting of a green, white, and red wire frame surrounding a gilded and enameled HONSz insignia, measuring 32 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Directly below the badge, the front is pinned with two lacquered wooden buttons. A multi-piece dark olive-drab satin liner fully encompasses the interior, with the crown retaining a fully-intact manufacturer’s label for the firm of Faragó, Nyíregyháza. A brown leather sweatband measuring 3.5 cm in width fully surrounded the lower edge. The cap measures approximately 26.5 cm (l) x 12 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, this scarce example issued to an official active with interwar Hungary’s primary war victims’ welfare agency remains in an extremely fine condition.
