For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. Description
Description
Constructed of gilded brass, the obverse featuring a radiant starburst bearing a central raised insignia of the Hungarian National Defence Association (Magyar Országos Véderő Egyesület/MOVE), the reverse with a clip and claws emanating from a functional roller, unmarked, measuring 65 mm (w) x 42 mm (h), an exceptionally rare buckle in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Magyar Országos Véderő Egyesület (Hungarian National Defense Association/MOVE) was founded in 1919 in the wake of the collapse of Austria-Hungary and the fall of the Hungarian Soviet Republic, during a period of political upheaval and painful territorial loss. Established by nationalist military officers and conservative figures, including Gyula Gömbös, MOVE functioned as a nationalist organization dedicated to preventing the spread of communism to Hungary, promoting Christian values, and advocating for the revision of the Treaty of Trianon. In the early 1920s it operated as a grassroots membership association with strong ties to veterans’ groups, paramilitary networks, and segments of the emerging Horthy regime, helping to mobilize support for counterrevolutionary and nationalist causes. While not a political party itself, it influenced public life through agitation, propaganda, social and youth activities, and the cultivation of a disciplined, patriotic ethos among its members. Its prominence declined as Hungary’s political system consolidated under Regent Miklós Horthy and as other nationalist movements and parties assumed greater roles; by the late 1930s its independent significance had largely faded, and it eventually ceased to function as a distinct organization amid wartime conditions and disappeared at the end of the Second World War.
