Hardcover, red cloth cover, with dust jacket, entitled "The Second Afghan War 1878-1890 Casualty Roll", compiled by Anthony Farrington, published by The London Stamp Exchange Ltd. of London, copyrighted in 1986, ISBN 0 948130 70 9. The book begins with a Preface, Contents, Abbreviations, Sources, Selected Despatches (as they were originally recorded), followed by the Casualty Roll for the Second Afghan War. The roll is documented under nineteen unit categories: Staff, Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, British Cavalry, British Infantry, Bengal Cavalry, Bengal Sappers and Miners, Bengal Native Infantry, Bengal Commissariat Department, Bengal Medical Service, Punjab Frontier Force, 1st Central Indian Horse, Mhairware Battalion, Hyderabad Contingent, Bombay Cavalry, Bombay Sappers and Miners, Bombay Native Infantry, 4rh Madras Native Infantry, Civilians: each stating the combatant's service number, last name, first name, the cause and nature of the injury, the date and location where it happened, as well as the ultimate outcome. It concludes with a list of Gallantry Award recipients with citations for the Victoria Cross, the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Indian Order of Merit. The book contains 152 pages printed in black ink, on a white paper stock, measuring 213 mm (w) x 303 mm (h) x 18.5 mm (d), with six names underlined in red on pages 82 and 83, the binding experiencing separation in the area facing the Preface which exposes the underlying mesh support, foxing present on the inside back cover and the top of the pages on the exterior, in addition to exhibiting spotting in selected areas throughout, along with edge wear on the dust jacket.
