United Kingdom. An Order of British India, II Class in Gold

Instituted 1837. In 22K Gold, a delicate and crisp II Class decoration, featuring an eight point star, clusters of smooth rays, with a central blue enamelled medallion, heavily convex, featuring a lion on a dark blue enamelled field, surrounded by a ring inscribed ORDER OF BRITISH INDIA, encircled by a laurel wreath, plain reverse with central rivet, measures 37.45 mm (w) x 40.52 mm (w), weighs 33.76 grams including original blue neck ribbon and barrelled loop, enamels intact, central medallion and wreath are slightly loose and will spin, remains in extremely fine condition. 

Footnote: The Order of British India was established by the Honourable East India Company in 1837 and was later taken over by the British Empire in 1859 following the Indian Rebellion of 1857. It was discontinued following the establishment of Indian independence in 1947.
