United Kingdom. An Indian Mutiny Medal to William Dyer, 23rd Regiment

 Instituted August 18, 1858. In silver, full size, the obverse bearing the effigy of Young Victoria, the reverse presents a standing Britannia with a lion at her side, the rim is officially impressed WILLM DYER, 23RD REGT, worn on a swivel suspension, small edge knocks throughout, small scratches on obverse and reverse, in near extremely fine condition. 

Footnote: Pte William Dyer of the 1st Battalion, 23rd Foot (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) is present on the Indian Mutiny Medal Roll. His service number was 30. 

The 1st Battalion, 23rd Regiment of Foot (later the Royal Welch Fusiliers) served with distinction during the Indian Mutiny of 1857–1858. Arriving in India as part of British reinforcements, the battalion was engaged in operations in Oudh and surrounding regions, where resistance to British authority remained strong. They took part in counter-insurgency actions, including the pacification of rebel-held towns and the pursuit of mutineers across difficult terrain. The battalion’s conduct under fire and in challenging conditions earned it recognition, and its soldiers were awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal for their service during the campaign.
