In wood, an ornately shaped photo frame, with textured background and raised letters of H.M.S. AJAX JUTLAND MAY 31 1916, with two swastika shapes on the top, and a glass covered circle for a photo. The reverse offers a stand attached to a removable back plate, worn and smooth wood, measures 157 mm (w) x 192 mm (h). No image included, light wear, missing one prong to hold in the backplate, remains in near very fine condition.
Footnote: A King George V–class battleship of the Royal Navy, HMS Ajax took part in the Battle of Jutland on 31 May–1 June 1916 as part of the Grand Fleet. Engaged during the main fleet action, she fired her 13.5-inch guns against German battleships and battlecruisers, sustaining no serious damage. Ajax emerged from the battle intact and continued in active service with the Grand Fleet for the remainder of the First World War.
