United Kingdom. An 1828 Pattern Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword, c.1830

An untouched example of the 1828 pattern featuring an 81 cm blade that remains securely fixed into the handle and guard, with the fuller running 51 cm towards to the blades end. With the brass gilt British proof slug in place stating "PROVRD GR" on one side of the ricasso thereby meeting British Ordnance standards of the time, while the reverse is plain. The blade has online minor surface rust with no major pitting. 

The swords iconic basket hilt is characteristic of the pattern featuring multiple heart designs on all panels. The handle is a wooden fishskin covered type with intact wiring. 

Accompanied by its original black leather scabbard with steel fittings, of which, the upper fitting has become loose as the leather has shrunk over time. 

Overall, a fine, untouched surviving example of this pattern recently uncovered in Ontario, Canada.
