A Calling Card in thick cardstock, with the handwritten inked message “With love & best wishes for your birthday Aunt Alice”, with address 10, Downing Street, Whitehall. S.W., measures 114.6 mm (w) x 89.1 mm (h), plain reverse, very minor foxing, in extremely fine condition.
This card was issued by British Prime Minister Clement Attlee, who held office after Winston Churchill, from 1945-1951.
Footnote: Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, was Clement Attlee's aunt by marriage. She was married to Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, who was the third son of King George V and Queen Mary. Through this marriage, she became an aunt by marriage to Queen Elizabeth II.
Clement Richard Attlee, 1st Earl Attlee was a British statesman, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1945 to 1951 and Leader of the Labour Party from 1935 to 1955.
