Softcover, entitled "Regimental Rolls of Officers who Died in the Great War 1914-1919", first published and printed by His Majesty's Stationery Office, crown copyright reserved in 1919, Second Edition by J.L.R. Samson in 1975, this Third Edition published by Samson Book of London in 1979, printed in Great Britain by Ebenezer Baylis & Son Ltd., The Trinity Press of Worcester and London. As noted at the front of the book: "This facsimile of the original work has been reproduced with the kind permission of H.M. Stationery Office, and is dedicated to the memory of all ranks who fell during the Great War, 1914-1919, and especially those who made the final sacrifice whilst serving with the Royal Highlanders, and the 20th-23rd Battalions Northumberland Fusiliers." It begins with a Preface (dated October 1919), followed by a List of Abbreviations and is divided in two Parts: Part I - Old and New Armies (pages 1 to 202) and Part II - Territorial Force (pages 203 to 262), documenting the officers who lost their lives during the First World War, from Commands and Staff, the Royal Flying Corps, along with the various members of the Life Guards, Dragoons, Hussars, Cavalry, Regiments, Fusiliers, Yeomanry, Highlanders, Rifles, Artillery, Engineers, Medical Corps, Ordnance Corps, Veterinary Corps, Chaplains' Department, Nursing Service, and many more. The book contains 272 pages, printed in black ink, on a white paper stock, the cover printed in black ink on a speckled light green paper, perfect bound, measuring 185 mm (w) x 270 mm (h) x 18 mm (d). It exhibits foxing on the top of the pages, with sunning present on the front cover and spine, along with marks on the back cover, however, the pages within remain unaffected. A terrific resource book for First World War collectors and researchers. Very fine.
