Multi-piece construction, both centrepieces in silver gilt with red, white and navy blue enamels, the badge in silver gilt with the four arms in white enamels, unmarked, measuring 52 mm (w) x 61 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, intact enamels, very light contact, exhibiting wear points on the lions' faces, on its original full-length neck ribbon with hook and eye closure, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, pebbled exterior, the lid marked in gold-coloured ink "C. B. MILY." (Companion), inside lid in white satin and marked with the King's crown above the maker mark "GARRARD & Co Ltd. / Goldsmiths, Jewellers, &c. / TO THE KING / By Special Appointment / TO THE CROWN / 24, ALBEMARLE ST., / LONDON, W.1.", base in white cotton and missing its insert, measuring 92 mm (w) x 163 mm (h) x 39 mm (d), the cover exhibiting light soiling, along with separation in two corners, edge wear on the bottom, the lid unable to close fully, case fine.
Footnote: The Most Honourable Order of the Bath was instituted in 1725. It is awarded for outstanding service in the Armed Forces or Civil Service. It was originally awarded in one grade, however, since 1918, it is awarded in three grades: Knight or Dame Grand Cross, Knight or Dame Commander, and Companion, in two divisions, Civil and Military.
