For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. Description
Description
A King’s South Africa Medal, in silver, rim impressed 2871 PTE G.T. LINDLEY. YORK. & LANC: REGT, with SOUTH AFRICA 1902 and SOUTH AFRICA 1901 clasps, light wear, dark patina, very fine.
Footnote: G.T. Lindley of the 1st Battalion York & Lancaster is on the Medal Roll for the King’s South Africa medal.
The York and Lancaster Regiment was actively engaged in the Second Boer War (1899–1902), sending battalions to South Africa to reinforce British forces against Boer commandos. During the conflict, the regiment participated in both siege operations and mobile campaigns, securing towns, railways, and supply lines, and engaging in skirmishes during the guerrilla phase of the war. Soldiers like Private G.T. Lindley, who qualified for the King’s South Africa Medal with 1901 and 1902 clasps, would have experienced harsh conditions, long marches, and frequent small-scale engagements across the Orange Free State and Transvaal. Their service exemplified the persistence and adaptability of British infantry during one of the last major colonial conflicts of the Victorian era.
