A Medal Bar, measuring 97 mm (w) with horizontal pin on the reverse, replacement ribbons, comprising:
An Indian General Service Medal, in silver, rim officially impressed CHAS. F. WILLIAMS. ASST. SURGN. “CLEOPATRA”, with PEGU clasp, light contact marks on rim and small scratches throughout, very fine.
A Crimea Medal, in silver, privately engraved on rim CHAS. F. WILLIAMS. ASST. SURGN. “CYCLOPS” with SEBASTOPOL, scratches throughout, bright and cleaned, very fine.
A Turkish Crimea Medal, in silver, light wear throughout, partially cleaned, very fine.
Footnote: Charles Foster Williams was born around 1825 in Stoke Damerel, Devon, England. He was promoted to assistant surgeon on November 21, 1846. He served aboard the HMS Cyclops during the Crimean War.
Williams served aboard multiple ships throughout his career including:
HMS Hibernia from November 21, 1846 until January 16, 1848. HMS Locust from January 17, 1848 in February 25, 1849. HMS Cleopatra May 1, 1849 until September 28, 1853. Cyclops from December 31, 1853 until September 15, 1856. HMS Waterloo from September 16, 1856 until December 4, 1856. HMS Cornwallis from December 4, 1856 until April 18, 1860. HMS Wrangler from April 19, 1860 until September 21, 1863. HMS Cambridge from December 1, 1863 to March 7, 1864. HMS Impregnable from November 21 1864 to May 2, 1865. HMS St. Vincent from August 27, 1865 until August 1, 1867.
Williams married Amelia Sarah Richards in 1867. Their daughter, Georgina Amelia Harriet was baptized in August 1874. At this time, Williams was deceased, at the age of 48.
