Institution Date: 1923. In silver, with the obverse bearing a leftward facing bust of George the 6th, and the reverse bearing the winged Roman Goddess Victory holding a laurel wreath. Medal named to Tpr. R.E Rutlege, 14479707 on the rim. On period ribbon denoting general service with a Palestine 1945-1948 clasp affixed. Medal measuring at 35mm (w) x 48mm (h- to top of suspension). With minor discoloration, in very fine condition.
Footnote: The General Service Medal was instituted by King George V by Army Order on January 23, 1923 as a contemporary award of the Naval General Service Medal. The Silver Medal was awarded to members of the military and royal air force in recognition of service in minor campaigns between 1918 and 1962 outside of campaigns in India and East, West, and Central Africa that were already recognized by the Africa or India General Service Medals.
