A swing mounted medal bar, horizontal pin on the reverse, measures 105 mm (w) x 130 mm (h), comprising:
A 1914 Star, in bronze, full size, reverse impressed 2066 PTE J. GIBBONS. 3/ D. GDS., with rosette on ribbon (denoting service under fire in France or Belgium between August 5 - November 22, 1914), remains very fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze, full size, rim impressed D-2066 PTE. J. GIBBONS. 3-D. GDS., worn on British War Medal ribbon, light wear, very fine.
A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim impressed D-2066 PTE. J. GIBBONS. 3-D. GDS., worn on a Victory Medal Ribbon, contact marks to edges, remains very fine.
Footnote: J. Gibbons served with the Royal Mounted Fusiliers, and was discharged in December 1887. During the First War, he served in the Prince of Wales, 3rd Dragoon Guards, and is on the medal roll for the 1914 Star. The 3rd Dragoon Guards served on the Western Front throughout the Great War, taking part in early cavalry operations before transitioning to dismounted service in the trenches. Medal entitlement reflects qualifying wartime service with this regular cavalry regiment.
