A lot of three medals and decorations, consisting of:
1. A Queen’s South Africa Medal with Transvaal, Orange Free State, and Cape Colony Clasps. Instituted in 1900. A round circular silver (tested) medal, the obverse depicting a crowned and veiled effigy of Queen Victoria facing left and circumscribed by her name and title, the reverse depicting Britannia holding the Union Flag in her left and and a laurel wreath in her right hand, the right background are troops marching inland from the coast while the left background consists of two men-of-war, circumscribed “South Africa”, in capitalized lettering, suspended from a single toe claw mount and a pin through the upper edge of the medal, featuring three clasps including “Transvaal, Orange Free State, and Cape Colony”, the edge inscribed “8886 PTE. C. WHEYHAM. LANC. FUS.”, measuring 36.3 mm in diameter.
2. An Indian General Service Medal (1909) with Waziristan 1919-21 and Mahsud 1919-20 Clasps. Instituted January 1st, 1909. A round circular silver (tested) medal, the obverse depicting a crowned King George V facing left and circumscribed by his name and title, the reverse depicting the Jamrud Fort at the Khyber Pass with the word “India” below between a wreath of oak and olive branches, suspended from a double toa claw mount, featuring two clasps including “Waziristan 1919-21” and “Mahsud 1919-20”, the edge inscribed “113 RR. Sher Khan, 2. A.B.C”, measuring 36.3 mm in diameter, with evidence of previous collector mounting on the correct modern replacement ribbon.
3. A Volunteer Long Service Medal. Instituted in 1894. A round circular silver (tested) medal, the obverse depicting the crown and veiled leftward-facing depicting of Queen Victoria circumscribed by her name and title, the reverse depicting a palm and laurel wreath that supports a scrolled banner bearing the inscription “For Long Service in the Volunteer Force” in capitalized lettering, on a double toe and horizontal bar for suspension from its correct modern replacement ribbon, measuring 36.2 mm in diameter.
A fine lot of three medals and awards, with contact marks and some bruising from age and wear throughout, in near very fine condition.
