United Kingdom. An Indian Mutiny Medal, Royal Horse Artillery

 Instituted August 18 1858. In silver, full size, rim officially impressed 2303 BOMBR T. M[illegible] ‘E’ TP. R.H.A., with LUCKNOW and DEFENSE OF LUCKNOW clasps, rim is worn demonstrating a loss of the last name of the recipient, light contact and knocks to edges, bright, ribbon stained, near very fine. 

Footnote: The Royal Horse Artillery (R.H.A.) played a decisive role in suppressing the Indian Mutiny of 1857–1858, a widespread uprising against British rule triggered by grievances within the Bengal Army. Fast-moving artillery units such as E Troop R.H.A. were crucial in supporting infantry columns, breaking fortified rebel positions, and providing mobility in difficult terrain. The Indian Mutiny Medal was awarded with clasps for specific actions, including Delhi, Relief of Lucknow, Lucknow, Central India, and Defence of Lucknow. Many R.H.A. men received the medal with one or more of these clasps, depending on their service.
