C. 1936. A promotional document signed by King Edward VIII and Prime Minister Anthony Eden, promoting Signor Raffaele Casertano to Consul General of Malta.
It reads “Edward, by the grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland, and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India - to all and singular our loving subjects to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Whereas our good brother the King of Italy has by a Commission bearing date the tenth day of September 1936 appointed Signor Raffaele Casertano to be His Consul General of Malta…Given at Our Court of St. James the twentieth day of october one thousand nine hundred and thirty six in the first year of our reign”.
It is signed by Prime Minister Anthony Eden on the bottom right corner and King Edward VIII along the top left hand corner. It measures 344 mm (l) x 468 mm (w), with light staining from age, in overall better than fine condition.
Footnote: Robert Anthony Eden (June 12th 1897 - January 14th 1977) was a British politician who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1955 until his resignation in 1957. Eden became Foreign Secretary of Great Britain after Samuel Hoare had resigned on December 18th, 1935.
