Instituted in 1897. Mayor Provost Issue. In silver, lozenge-shaped, the obverse center shows the profile of Queen Victoria facing left, the reverse shows the profile of young Victoria facing left, on the original ribbon, 48 mm (h) x 41 mm (w), extremely fine condition. In a hard-shelled case, white satin lined on the inside lid, blue velvet medal bed, lid repaired and reaffixed to case, fine condition.
Footnote: The Diamond Jubilee Medal was instituted in 1897 by Royal Warrant as a British decoration. The medal was awarded to members of the Royal Family and the court, guests and dignitaries present at the celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria and to selected soldiers and sailors who formed the jubilee parade in London. A special diamond shaped medal was awarded to mayors and provosts, presented in gold to lord mayors and lord provosts (14 awarded) and silver to mayors and provosts (512 awarded) from across the United Kingdom.
