A 1914 Star, in bronze, reverse impressed 8967 PTE. G. KELLETT. R.LANC:R., full size, worn on replacement ribbon with old copy 5th AUG-22ND NOV 1914 clasp, dark patina, very fine.
A British War Medal, in silver, rim impressed 8967 CPL. G. KELLETT. R. LANC. R., full size, dark patina, very fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, rim impressed 8967 CPL. G. KELLETT. R. LANC. R., full size, loss of gilt, notable wear, very fine.
Footnote: George Kellett was born in Lancaster in 1892. He enlisted in 1906. In the 1911 census, he was reported as an 18 year old private soldier serving with the 1st Battalion King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment at Havelock Barracks, Dilkusal, Lucknow, India.
He served in France, and was wounded in 1914. The North-Western Daily Mail, of September 22, 1914, states: “Private Kellett was wounded in the fight at Scissons, a splinter of shell striking his right arm near the elbow. He was brought home to Southampton with a big party of wounded, and was conveyed with them by special train on Sunday to Whitworth-street Hospital.”
He rejoined the 1st Battalion, “B” Company in France, he was wounded in action 1st July 1916, gun shot wound to the hip and buttock. He was admitted to No. 2 General Hospital, France 4th 1916. He was evacuated to England aboard the Hospital Ship Austuras.
