A medal bar of ten decorations, swing mounted, measuring 160mm in length, including:
1. 1914-15 Star, in bronze gilt, full size, plain reverse, worn on original ribbon, light wear and edge knocks visible, very fine condition.
2. British War Medal, in silver, rim impressed J46223. S.R. ROLFE. ORD. R.N., worn on original ribbon, noteable edge knocks, dark patina, very fine condition.
3. First War Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, rim impressed J.46223. S.R. ROLFE. ORD. R.N., worn on original ribbon, heavily worn on obverse and reverse, in near very fine condition.
4. Naval General Service, in silver, rim impressed J.46223. S.R ROLFE. C.P.O., R.N, worn on original ribbon with clasp PALESTINE 1936-1939, light wear and contact marks, lovely patina, in very fine condition.
5. 1939-45 Star, in bronze gilt, reverse plain, worn on original ribbon, light wear, lovely patina, in very fine condition.
6. Atlantic Star, in bronze gilt, reverse plain, worn on original ribbon with FRANCE AND GERMANY clasp, light wear, in very fine condition.
7. Africa Star, in bronze gilt, reverse plain, worn on original ribbon with SOUTH AFRICA 1942-43 clasp, light wear, in very fine condition.
8. Defence Medal, in silver, on original ribbon, light wear and edge knocks, in very fine condition.
9. 1939-45 War Medal, in silver, on original ribbon, light wear, in very fine condition.
10. Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, in silver, rim impressed J. 46223 S. R. ROLFE. P.O. H.M.S. VALIANT, worn on original ribbon, dark patina around the exterior and rim, edge knocks visible, remains in very fine condition.
Footnote: Sidney Robert Rolfe was born April 23, 1900 in Gorleston, Norfolk, England. Prior to enlisting in the navy, he was employed as a Newsboy. On the date of his 18th birthday, Rolfe enlisted for 12 years service with the Royal Navy, after two years of experience as a II Class and I Class Boy on the Ganges. His records indicate he was 5’.5”, with brown hair and grey eyes. He became ‘on sea’ aboard the Chatham in December 1918. In February 1929, Rolfe began serving on the HMS Pembroke, and continued his employment in the Navy across numerous ships. His last service date was in October 1940 as a boatswain aboard the Victory.
