Description
Constructed of a polished steel shell, with a rounded front peak and a three-piece lobster neck-guard, edged in brass trim. The crown features a tall steel spike secured in place with four rivets. Fastened to the peak of the helmet is a metal insignia measuring 14.5 cm (w) x 15 cm (h), and bearing the Prussian eagle with a royal crown, ‘FR’ (Fridericus Rex) on its breast, and a banner with the inscription MIT GOTT FUR KOENIG UND VATERLAND (With God For King and Fatherland). The interior is painted black in the front and green in the back, and holds a fully intact replacement black leather liner, which bears eleven integrated flaps, each perforated with an eyelet, drawn together by a string. The helmet is unmarked, having been polished and restored. A good display example which measures 29 mm (h) x 30 mm (l) x 20 mm (w), fine.
Footnote: The Guards Cuirassiers were a heavy cavalry regiment of the Royal Prussian Army. It was originally an Uhlans regiment before being reorganized as a cuirassiers unit in 1821. The regiment fought in the Second Schleswig War, the Austro-Prussian War, the Franco-Prussian War and World War I.
