Description

(Kriegsgefangenen Modell-Schlachtschiff). Constructed of unvarnished wood, consisting of a scale model of a battleship with stacks, towers, turrets, and other details constructed separately and carefully added in place, affixed to a pedestal of identical construction, the obverse of which bears a hand-painted inscription of “SOUVENIER OF A GERMAN PRISONER OF WAR CANADA CAMP C”, indicating construction by an inmate of Gravenhurst POW Camp, measuring 45.5 cm (l) x 6.5 cm (w) x 10.5 cm (h), demonstrating the loss of some fixtures and details, an interesting example of POW ephemera from a camp primarily housing Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine personnel captured during the Battle of Britain and Atlantic Campaign, respectively, in better than very fine condition.
