Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mixed Lot of Decorations & Awards

(Auszeichnungen). A mixed lot of awards, including:

1. A War Merit Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR KRIEGSVERDIENST 1939” (“FOR WAR MERIT 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.31 mm in diameter, weighing 17.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in near extremely fine condition.

2. A second War Merit Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension, he obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR KRIEGSVERDIENST 1939” (“FOR WAR MERIT 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.50 mm in diameter, weighing 13.4 grams, demonstrating some tarnishing, in very fine condition.

3. A group of three Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service Awards, each constructed of magnetic metal and on loops for suspension, the obverse of each bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, circumscribed by inscriptions of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse of each bearing a wreathed number “4”, all unmarked measuring 30.57 mm in diameter, and weighing 11.8 grams, demonstrating surface oxidation throughout, in overall very fine condition.

3. A group of three Eastern Front Medals, all constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loops for suspension from period original ribbons, the obverse of each bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse of each bearing a raised inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, all topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, two maker marked and one unmarked, all measuring 36.19 mm (w) x 44.19 mm (h) and weighing 19.3 grams, demonstrating minor loss of finish throughout, in overall near extremely fine condition.

4. A West Wall Medal, constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a double-sided oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the top and bottom by ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised pillbox topped by a crossed sword and shovel and a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR ARBEIT ZUM SCHUTZE DEUTSCHLANDS” (“FOR WORK IN THE PROTECTION OF GERMANY”), unmarked, measuring 33.25 mm (w) x 45.59 mm (h), weighing 14.8 grams, accompanied by its original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “DEUTSCHES SCHUTZWALL-EHRENZEICHEN” and a maker’s mark of “CARL POELLATH, SCHROBENHAUSEN”, measuring 60 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), demonstrating loss of bronze finish throughout the award, in overall better than very fine condition.

5. Air Defence Honour Badge, II Class Medal, constructed of feinzink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, the obverse bearing a central raised mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE IM LUFTSCHUTZ” (“FOR MERIT IN AIR DEFENCE”), the reverse bearing a central raised date of “1938”, unmasked, measuring 38.42 mm (w) x 42.96 mm (h), weighing 25.7 grams, in extremely fine condition.

6. A 1933 Paul von Hindenburg and AH patriotic medal, constructed of a silvered alloy, on loop for suspension, unmarked, measuring 29.91 mm in diameter, weighing 10.1 grams, demonstrating minor loss of finish throughout, in very fine condition.
