Germany, Wehrmacht. A Close Combat Clasp, Silver Grade, Refurbished Example, by Rudolf Souval

(Nahkampfspange in Silber). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a central square oak leaf wreath, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a mobile swastika, overlaid by a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, situated over a magnetic metal backplate, flanked on each side by four rays and four oak leaves with two acorns, the reverse with a barrel hinge and narrow horizontal pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with the logo of Rudolf Souval, Vienna, measuring 96.87 mm (w) x 26.14 mm (h), weighing 34.2 grams, replacement of the finish is evident with trace amounts of an original finish suggesting that the grade of the clasp has been converted, while the backplate has been crudely replaced, a refurbished example in very fine condition.
