(Schulterklappen). A pair of shoulder boards, each constructed of four rows of silver twisted wires in a U-shaped Russian braided pattern, with a black wool base, with a red rayon piping (signifying Artillery), with a button-hole, each presenting a gilded LAH cypher, measuring 34 mm (w) x 115 mm (h), and in very fine condition.
Footnote: The 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS AH began as AH’s personal bodyguard and eventually grew into an elite division-sized unit during the Second World War. The LSSAH participated in the invasion of Poland, was amalgamated into the Waffen-SS with the SS-VT and the combat units of the SS-TV prior to Operation Barbarossa in 1941. By mid-1942, due to its increase in size from a regiment to a Panzergrenadier division and was designated SS Panzergrenadier Division LSSAH. Members of the LSSAH were responsible for numerous war crimes and atrocities. In addition to the invasion of Poland, the participated in the invasion of France, Greece, the Soviet Union, Italy, Operation Spring Awakening, and the Battle of Berlin.
