Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, II Class Breast Star, by Gebrüder Godet

(Verdienstorden vom Deutscher Adler, Bruststern zum Verdienstkreuz). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1937-1945 issue). Constructed of silver with gilt and enamels, the obverse consisting of a six-pointed radiant starburst, overlaid by a central white enameled Maltese Cross, with its arms joined through the quadrants by NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on white enameled discs, the reverse with two small blasted rivets securing the cross in position, with a wide barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, measuring 65.32 mm (w) x 75.56 mm (h), weighing 50.0 grams, demonstrating a consistent and unspoiled patina throughout the silver base and gilded features with minor flecking of the enamels, an exceptionally well-preserved example demonstrating Godet’s noted quality, in extremely fine condition.
