Germany, Third Reich. An Anschluss Medal, with Case, by the Vienna Mint

(Die Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 13. März 1938 mit Etui). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a central date of “13. MÄRZ 1938”, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”), unmarked, measuring 32.14 mm in diameter, weighing 14.8 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted maroon felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, the base retaining a maker’s label reading “HAUPTMÜNZAMT WIEN III” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 50 mm (w) x 105 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), demonstrating loss of finish throughout the medal and some material fatigue to the case, in very fine condition.
