Germany, Third Reich. A Pair of Two Silver Grade Wound Badges, First Pattern and Second Pattern

A grouping of two Third Reich German silver grade wound badges, consisting of:

1. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, Type I for Spanish Volunteers. (Verwundetenabzeichen für deutsche Freiwillige im spanischen Freiheitskampf in Silber). Instituted May 22nd 1939. (1939-1940 issue). Constructed of silvered tombac, the obverse consists of an oval laurel leaf wreath with scalloped edges, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a raised sheet metal hinge, vertical pinback, and round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 37.6 mm (w) x 43.5 mm (l), with approximately half of the original silver finish remaining, in near very fine condition.

2. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, Silver Grade. (Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber). Instituted September 1st 1939. (c. 1940 issue). Constructed of silvered tombac, the obverse consists of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm, overlaid by a mobile swastika, the solid reverse with a tall barrel hinge, a vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but showing the manufacturing characteristics of that of the Vienna Mint, measuring 36.3 mm (w) x 43.8 mm (l), weighing 33.52 grams, in extremely fine condition.
