Germany, Third Reich. A Mixed Lot of Medals

(Medaillen). A mixed lot of medals, including:

1. A War Merit Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR KRIEGSVERDIENST 1939” (“FOR WAR MERIT 1939”), unmarked, measuring 32.18 mm in diameter, weighing 12.6 grams, in near mint condition.

2. A Sudetenland Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised date of “1. OKTOBER 1938”, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”), unmarked, measuring 32.12 mm in diameter, weighing 14.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), demonstrating some oxidation, in near extremely fine condition.

3. A medal bar featuring two decorations, including a Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service Award, constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon pinned with Heer/Kriegsmarine device, the obverse bearing a central raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse bearing a central wreathed number “4”, unmarked, measuring 29.93 mm in diameter, weighing 11.0 grams, in extremely fine condition, and; an Anschluss Medal, constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised date of “13. MÄRZ 1938”, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”), unmarked, measuring 32.03 mm in diameter, demonstrating moderate loss of finish, in better than very fine condition; both suspended from a 70 mm-long magnetic metal bar with a horizontal pinback and field-grey wool reverse liner, demonstrating minor fading to the ribbons, in near extremely fine condition.

4. A 1936 Berlin Olympics Commemorative Medallion in Bronze, constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised female figure clutching an olive branch and laurel crown, circumscribed by an inscription of “ZUR EHRE DES VATERLANDES ZUM RUHME DES SPORTS” (“TO THE HONOUR OF THE FATHERLAND, TO THE GLORY OF SPORTS”), the reverse bearing a central raised bell overlaid by a German national eagle clutching Olympic rings, the rim of the bell bearing an inscription of “ICH RUFE DIE JUGEND DER WELT” (“I CALL THE YOUTH OF THE WORLD”), circumscribed by an inscription of “OLYMPISCHE SPIELE BERLIN MCMXXXVI” (“OLYMPIC GAMES BERLIN 1936”), unmarked, measuring 36 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
