Germany, Third Reich. A Mixed Lot Of Awards And Badges

(Auszeichnungen und Abzeichen). A mixed lot of 15 awards and badges, including:

1 A 1939 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “24” for Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Hanauer Plakettenhersteller, measuring 44.85 mm (w) x 48.06 mm (h), the core demonstrates extensive oxidation throughout and has been repainted, in fair condition.

2. A War Merit Cross II Class, constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse bearing a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1939”, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “88” for Werner Redo, Saarlautern, measuring 48.85 mm (w) x 49.17 mm (h), weighing 15.7 grams, demonstrating loss of bronze finish throughout, in very fine condition.

3. A War Merit Cross II Class with Swords, constructed of bronzed zink, on a replacement loop for suspension with an incorrect 1914 Iron Cross II Class ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1939”, unmarked, measuring 48.35 mm (w) x 49.50 mm (h), weighing 21.3 grams (inclusive of ribbon), most of the bronze finish has been lost and one of the tips of the nine o’clock arm has broken off, in fair condition.

4. A Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a clip hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “107” for Carl Wild, Hamburg, measuring 36.90 mm (w) x 44.24 mm (h), weighing 10.4 grams, demonstrating sporadic loss of finish, in very fine condition.

5. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, constructed of silvered zink,  the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meting a flat wire catch, the catch crimp maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “100” for Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, measuring 35.88 mm (w) x 43.48 mm (h), weighing 22.6 grams, the obverse swastika has been ground out and loss of finish is evident throughout, a scarce marked version in fair condition.

6. A ribbon bar featuring four decorations, including a 1914 Iron Cross II Class, an Oldenburg Friedrich August Cross, and an Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for Combatants, set on a 46 mm-long magnetic metal bar with a horizontal pinback, unmarked, in extremely fine condition.

7. An NSDAP Youth belt buckle, constructed of gilded and silvered brass, the obverse bearing a central raised NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, set within a circular ribbed ring bearing laurel branches, the reverse with swivel attachment claws, unmarked, measuring 50 mm (w) x 38 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

8. A Marinebeamte mid-level technical service arm insignia, constructed of a dark blue wool backer, the obverse bearing a silver aluminum wire German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, flanked by two pips, unmarked, measuring 38 mm (w) x 50 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

9. An NSDAP membership badge, constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the reverse marked with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo, measuring 23 mm in diameter, missing its pinback, in very fine condition.

10. An Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ) Proficiency Badge, Silver Grade, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a Sig rune, bearing a central mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “FÜR LEISTUNGEN IM D.J.” (“FOR MERIT IN THE D.J.”), the reverse with a vertical pinback, marked with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and maker code “M1/63” for Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid, measuring 32 mm (w) x 46 mm (h), demonstrating loss of finish throughout, a late-period example in very fine condition.

11. A 1934 HJ Jugendfest badge, constructed of porcelain, vertical pinback, unmarked, measuring 18 mm (w) x 29 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.

12. A 1939 HJ summer camp badge, constructed of aluminum, the reverse maker marked “BERNSBACH/ERZG.”, measuring 15 mm (w) x 28 mm (h), missing its pinback, in very fine condition.

13. A 1940 HJ summer camp badge, constructed of aluminum, vertical pinback, unmarked, measuring 18 mm (w) x 24 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

14. An HJ Labour Youth badge, constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, unmarked, measuring 23 mm in diameter, missing its pinback, in very fine condition.

15. A Winterhilfswerk (WHW) campaign donor’s badge, constructed of bakelite, horizontal pinback, unmarked, measuring 28 mm (w) x 36 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
