Germany, Third Reich. A Life Saving Medal, with Case, by the Prussian Mint

(Medaille für Rettung aus Gefahr mit Etui). Instituted 22 June 1933 by Paul von Hindenburg. (1934-1945 issue). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a raised German national eagle overlaid by a mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR RETTUNG AUS GEFAHR” (“FOR RESCUE FROM DANGER”) within a circular oak leaf wreath, the edge demonstrating the remnants of the maker’s mark of the Prussian Mint in Berlin, measuring 49.88 mm in diameter, weighing 53.8 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux blue leather exterior liner, the interior with a padded off-white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a fitted off-white velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 80 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), demonstrating pitting and edge nicks throughout the medal with additional evidence of cleaning and polishing, with some material fatigue evident to the case, in overall very fine condition.
