Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS M43 Field Cap for Panzer Troops, Dachau Variant

(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Mannschaften der Panzertruppe). A well-preserved Waffen-SS M43 field cap for Panzer Troops, constructed of black wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped toward the front, which provide optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and are secured in place with two black bakelite buttons which emanate from the right side and meet two reinforced buttonholes set into the left. The peak demonstrates the unmistakable outline of a one-piece trapezoidal insignia which has been carefully removed from the cap, leaving behind threading but with no notable damage or disruption to the base material. A protruding visor completes the exterior features, and consists of a rigid card stock core that is lined in identical wool on top, with an exposed underside in classic Dachau style. A multi-piece black cotton liner encompasses the interior, and bears a size mark of “57” on the crown. Otherwise unmarked, the cap measures approximately 22 cm (w) x 26 cm (l) x 13 cm (h). Demonstrating not notable damage or wear with the exception of the missing peak insignia, this late-war cap remains in an extremely fine condition
