Description
Description
(Schutzstaffel Ehrendegen für Führer). A well-preserved Allgemeine SS Officer’s dress sword, measuring 90.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 75.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to the tip and lower edge. A wide fuller runs approximately two-thirds of the length of each side of the blade. Unmarked, it sits securely within a multi-piece hilt, with an intact leather buffer pad covering the seam. The hilt has a nickel-plated magnetic steel crossguard and hand guard which culminates in a flattened and serrated pommel. An SS proof mark is stamped onto the top of the crossguard. The handle grip consists of a ribbed, blackened, and lacquered wood, with the ribbing retaining original silvered wire cords. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered medallion bearing raised Sig runes, measuring 21 mm in diameter. Accompanying the sword is its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. Nickel-plated magnetic metal fixtures are secured to both the tip and throat, with the latter executed in a trefoil design and retaining a functional spring catch to firmly hold the sword in place during storage. An additional SS proof mark is stamped onto the throat directly beside the opening, while an integral loop and ring situated just below the throat accommodates a hanger. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks to the blade, some loss of nickel plating to the hilt fixture adjacent to the handle grip, and moderate loss of finish throughout the scabbard. This scarce and unmarked example remains in a better than very fine condition.
