Germany, NSFK. A 1939 Gliding Competition Third Place Victor’s Medallion, with Case, by Gustav Brehmer

Constructed of bronzed feinzink, the obverse bearing a central raised NSFK insignia, topped by a date of 28 5-4. 6. 1939, and circumscribed by inscriptions of “8. LAUCHA-SEGELFLUGWETTBEWERB” (“8TH LAUCHA GLIDING COMPETITION”) and “NSFK GRUPPE 7 (ELBE-SAALE)”, the reverse bearing a carefully engraved dedication of “3. PREIS WERTUNGSGRUPPE: ÜBUNGSSEGELFLUGZEUGE” (“3RD PRIZE: TRAINING GLIDERS”), maker marked “BREHMER, MARKNEUKIRCHEN” for the firm of Gustav Brehmer, measuring 82 mm in diameter, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a padded white satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a fitted dark blue velvet medal bed, closing with a metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 105 mm (w) x 105 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), demonstrating total loss of bronze finish to the medallion, with material fatigue to the case which renders its catch non-functional, in better than very fine condition.
