Germany, Luftwaffe. A Winter Flight Helmet

(Luftwaffe Kopfhaube für Flieger). A Luftwaffe winter flight helmet, constructed of a multi-panel dark brown leather shell. The helmet is flanked on each side by leather compartments for the accommodation of ear pieces which have been lost to time. Two integral straps set into the beck of the head fasten closed with functional metal snap buttons for the accommodation of flight equipment. Additional elasticized straps emanate from the lower edge and close with bakelite buttons. The crown features a hollow channel formerly accommodating an additional strap which has been lost to time. Two chinstraps perforated with numerous eyelets emanate from the front and fit through analogous metal buckles on the opposite sides. The interior is fully lined with a layer of thick white wool. Visible on the reverse is an intact label indicating that the helmet was manufactured by Siemens and is a commonly-issued LKpW101 model. In addition to the missing straps and fixtures the helmet demonstrates moderate soiling and material fatigue throughout. It remains in a very fine condition.
