Germany, Luftwaffe. A Tropical Service Shirt

(Luftwaffe Tropen Diensthemd). A well-preserved Luftwaffe tropical service shirt, constructed of khaki-tan cotton. It features a turned-down collar with a vertical slit extending from the collar through the chest, closing with four bakelite buttons on the right meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. The shoulders are flanked on each side by a pebbled zink button and integral loop for the addition of straps. Each cuff has a vertical slit closing with a bakelite button to allow the sleeves to be rolled up as necessitated by field duties. Each side of the breast has a plated pocket closing with a scalloped flap perforated with a reinforced buttonhole, in turn meeting bakelite buttons. Stitched onto the upper right breast, partially overlapping the corresponding pocket, is an insignia consisting of triangular khaki-tan cotton backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 90 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). The interior is plain with the exception of an illegible stamped black ink mark on the collar. Otherwise unmarked, the shirt measures approximately 45 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 56 cm, and an overall body length of 78 cm. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, it remains in an extremely fine condition.
