Germany, Luftwaffe. A Rare Jagdgeschwader Horst Wessel Commemorative Book, with Unit-Attributed Dedication, by Hans Peter Hermel

A rare and extremely well-preserved copy of Hans Peter Hermel’s 1938 commemorative publication, “Jagdgeschwader Horst Wessel”, published by the NSDAP’s main publishing house in Munich and printed by M. Müller & Sohn, Munich, consisting of a heavy card stock binding with a faux red canvas exterior liner, the cover bearing an embossed insignia of Jagdgeschwader Horst Wessel, the interior content consisting of 276 paginated interior pages opening with a photo of a bust of Sturmabteilung (SA) martyr and unit namesake Horst Wessel, and featuring introductions and commentary by notable figures including AH, Hermann Göring, Joseph Goebbels, and Viktor Lutze, with the subsequent content consisting of brief biographies of SA martyrs of the “Kampfzeit”, each accompanied by a detailed sketch of the subject, concluding with black-and-white photos of the Jagdgeschwader Horst Wessel dedication ceremony, notably opening with a handwritten dedication to an individual serving with Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps (National Socialist Flyers Corps/NSFK) Standarte GPi. 5 for Christmas 1943, featuring a signature-certified stamp from the unit Korpsführer identified as Hauptsturmführer Fischer, measuring 17.5 cm (w) x 25.5 cm (h), demonstrating minor material fatigue to the exterior corners of the binding with some age-appropriate discolouration, a rare example with a researchable dedication in extremely fine condition.
