A superb trench art model of the famous Battleship Bismarck, constructed of lacquered brown wood, consisting of an elongated case opening with two functional sliding wooden buttons riveted to metal bracks, opening to reveal a scale model of the ship executed in stunning detail, with stacks, towers, and guns faithfully depicted and highlighted by a paper Reichskriegsflagge, affixed to a pedestal fronted by a plaque bearing a handwritten inscription of “BISMARCK”, the pedestal in turn secured to the hinge of the case so as to seamlessly emerge upon opening, measuring 33 cm (w) x 11 cm (l) x 6.5 cm (h), an exceptional example of trench art, possibly crafted by a Kriegsmarine POW or serviceman as a wartime memento or gift and demonstrating exceptional skills, in extremely fine condition.
