(Kriegsmarine U-Boot-Kommandant Postkarte mit Unterschrift). A signed postcard of Kriegsmarine U-Boat ace Kapitänleutnant (later-Fregattenkapitän) Reinhard Suhren, depicted in uniform and with the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords expertly edited in to the image, the lower half of the image overlaid by Suhren’s handwritten signature, the reverse unused and bearing a Munich studio mark, measuring 9 cm (w) x 14 cm (h), bearing the remnants of an adhesive consistent with previous album display, in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Over a distinguished service career, Reinhard Suhren participated in the sinking of 200,000 Gross Register Tons (GRT) of merchant shipping as First Watch Officer aboard U-48, receiving the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, before assuming command of U-564 in April 1941, subsequently sinking 18 merchant vessels for a total of 95,544 GRT, in addition to an Allied warship. For efforts, Suhren later received the Oak Leaves and Swords and was promoted to Fregattenkapitän.
