(Papiere). A set of commemorative documents from the estate of Oberleutnant Hans-Jürgen Schreiber, a highly-decorated Officer who primarily served with Divisions-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 22, including:
1. A hand-drawn map chronicling the Crimean campaign, presented in multi-coloured ink on off-white paper, topped by an inscription of “MARSCH DER ‘VIERTEN’!” (“MARCH OF THE FOURTH!”), measuring 21 cm (w) x 29.5 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
2. A hand-drawn emblem of Aufklärungs-Abteilung 22, presented in multi-coloured ink on off-white paper, above an inscription of “WIR BLEIBEN WAS WIR WAR’N, DIE TOTENKOPF-HUSAR’N!” (“WE REMAIN WHAT WE WERE, THE DEATH'S HEAD HUSSARS!”), measuring 20.5 cm (w) x 29.5 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
3. A handwritten list of recipients of decorations within the unit, presented in multi-coloured ink on off-white paper, with Schriber’s name highlighted in enlarged text as a recipient of the German Cross in Gold on 14 June 1942, measuring 20.5 cm (w) x 29.5 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
4. A commemorative award document for the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, presented in multi-coloured ink on off-white paper, featuring a hand-drawn depiction of the award at the top of an oak leaf border, and featuring a dedication to Schreiber in his capacity of Chief of 3. Kompanie, Divisions-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 22, with an award date of 3 January 1943, the reverse pasted with a period extract from the official mass-circulated list of Knight’s Cross recipients featuring Schreiber’s entry, measuring 21 cm (w) x 29.5 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
5. A typewritten letter, dated 8 January 1943 and issued by the Commander of Grenadier-Regiment 16, expressing congratulations and best wishes to Schreiber for receiving the Knight’s Cross, closing with a handwritten signature, measuring 20.5 cm (w) x 29.5 cm (h), demonstrating some creasing and tearing to the edges, in very fine condition.
5. A post-war typewritten letter to Schreiber from Feldmarschall Erich von Manstein, issued from Münster and date 10 December in an unspecified year, expressing gratitude to Schreiber for an unspecified telegram which he submitted to von Manstein on behalf of the surviving members of Aufklärungs-Abteilung 22, with the Feldmarschall going on to express his admiration of the unit and extending his best wishes for both living and fallen comrades, closing with von Manstein’s handwritten signature in blue ink, measuring 20.5 cm (w) x 29.5 cm (h), demonstrating some creasing and discolouration, in better than very fine condition.
