Germany, Heer. A Half-Button Undershirt, Owner-Attributed Example

(Heer Unterhemd). A very well-preserved Heer undershirt, constructed of a dark field-grey wool/rayon blended cloth. It features a turned-down collar which transitions into a central slash, closing with four pressed card stock buttons on the right which meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. The cuffs of each sleeve have additional slashes which close with identical buttons. One slash bears a handwritten owner’s name of “PAUL G. WEISSE”, situated above an illegible location or unit dedication. Otherwise unmarked, the shirt measures approximately 52 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 54 cm, and an overall length of 84 cm. Demonstrating only minor and age-appropriate material fatigue to the base material, this owner-attributed example remains in a near extremely fine condition.
