Germany, Heer. A Commemorative Dress Bayonet, by Clemen & Jung

(Heer Bajonett). An extremely well-preserved Heer commemorative dress bayonet, measuring 35 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 20 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to both the tip and lower edge. The obverse is decorated with an acid-etched banner bearing an inscription of “ZUR ERINNERUNG AN MEINE DIENSTZEIT” (“IN MEMORY OF MY SERVICE TIME”), surrounded by clusters of oak leaves and flanked by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The reverse bears an acid-etched depiction of an Sd.Kfz. 9 half-track towing an artillery piece, indicating that the owner served with a transport or artillery company, similarly flanked by a Heer eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The reverse ricasso features a maker’s mark reading “CLEMEN & JUNG, SOLINGEN”, circumscribing the firm’s monogram logo. The blade sits securely within a nickel-plated non-magnetic metal alloy hilt with a hooked quillon and pommel facilitating a comfortable grip, with an intact blackened leather buffer pad covering the seam. A hollow insertion slot set into the pommel retains a functional push-button spring release and red wool insert. Two pieces of polished staghorn compose the handle grip, and are fixed in position with dual non-magnetic metal rivets. Accompanying the bayonet is its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the side of the shaft just below the throat for the inclusion of a frog. A functional spring catch situated within the throat firmly holds the bayonet in place during storage. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, this superb commemorative bayonet remains in an extremely fine condition.
