Germany, Federal Republic. A Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, Exhibition Example with Case, by Rudolf Souval

(Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes, Museumsstück mit Etui). Constructed of silvered and feinzink, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened feinzink core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an eyelet which retains a suspension ring and original length of neck ribbon, the suspension ring stamped with a silver content number of “900”, otherwise unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of an early exhibition example produced by Rudolf Souval, Vienna, for veteran replacement and collector display, measuring 48.47 mm (w) x 54.46 mm (h), weighing 27.8 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a padded white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a fitted black felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 80 mm (w) x 145 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
